So I decided to surprise Jonathan with this Jerusalem themed birthday cake, and once I started working on it I realized I should have at least inform his wife of my plans to avoid an uncomfortable situation. When I called and told her of my plans she was praising God, since she wanted so much to get him a specialty cake for his birthday and even went as far as trying to order one from The Cake Boss, but none of her plans prevailed. She was so disappointed about it, but when I called she realized God had it planned all along...
The bottom tier was yellow cake with Chocolate Bavarian Cream (my favorite). I had it covered with fondant and then applied fondant cutouts of the Jerusalem wall to create an embossed look. I drew the rest of the scenery directly onto the cake using food coloring. I incorporated the Jubilee scripture around the bottom border.
Around the perimeter of the star I wrote the Aaronic Benediction...May the Lord bless you and keep you Jonathan!
Music to my ears :-)
